Nesting

I'm in an awkward transitional phase these days. Trying to figure out what I'm about. I've been sick for a long time and that's dictated my personal agenda: Take care of yourself. Get better.

Now that I'm basically healthy what do I do? In the short term, I think I'll be trying to make our place feel like home. We moved here 9 months ago but I still feel unsettled.

My husband and I have been married for 15 years and have moved five times. There was one place we lived for several years consecutively and I remember feeling so connected there. Our house felt like ours - we'd painted, remodeled, planted things in the yard. We'd collected a nice network of friends inside and outside our church. I really want to have that here.

  1. I know how you feel and JUST what you mean! In the almost 18 years we've been married we have lived in 10 different homes! Yipes! This is home #10 for us and I pray we will grow old in it. I love to plan and dream. I've spent many a winter/spring season pouring through seed/bulb catalogs and writing down what I like. Even mapping out where I might like to plant everything. Then I dream of what colors I might like on which walls and I start writing that down too. I keep it in a notebook so my thoughts are together. I visit organizational blogs because that's where I need some ideas right now.

I'm excited for you actually! You have a clean canvas on which you can begin to paint your family's life. Choose your colors, your textures, the things that make you happy. Things that bring joy to your day. You'll settle in, a bit at a time. Pray to recognize the pieces of home the Lord gives you, too. Sometimes it's in a pie a member brings by just because. Or a game your kids invent and play day after day, making it part of their lives. Or even in the simple fact that you've found the perfect place to store your pot lids!

God's blessings as you start this journey!
